Enrollment Season Warning: Freshmen Beware of Tuition Transfer Traps, Fake information & High-Tech Scams!

ppblong / 3:10 am 02/02/2026

The enrollment season is actively taking place at universities across the country in general and at Nguyen Tat Thanh University in particular, with thousands of new students eagerly entering their new academic journey. However, this is also the time when fraudulent schemes, especially “scam traps” for tuition fee transfers, are at risk of increasing significantly. Given this situation, universities have issued advisory notices for students to avoid falling into the traps of scammers.

Sophisticated Scam Tactics
– Impersonating university staff: Scammers often pose as university staff to contact students and parents via phone calls or messages. They provide information such as personal bank account numbers and demand immediate tuition fee transfers, using urgent reasons like an approaching deadline or early payment discounts.
– Sending fake emails: Email phishing is another tactic commonly used by scammers. They create fake emails with interfaces and content that look exactly like official addresses from the university, requesting students to update their personal details or transfer tuition fees to a designated account.
– Fraudulent websites: Some scam cases are even more sophisticated, creating fake websites with interfaces closely resembling the official university website. These sites may request students to enter personal data, bank account details, or perform tuition fee transfer transactions.
– Exploiting social media: Scammers also use fake social media accounts to approach students, impersonating academic advisors, admissions office staff, or university representatives to demand money transfers. This information is often embedded with urgent factors or tuition discounts and scholarships, making it easy for students to fall into the trap.
– Threatening phone calls: Some scammers use threatening phone calls, warning students that they have not completed their tuition fees and might not be allowed to enroll if they do not transfer money immediately. These calls are usually made at sensitive times, such as right before the payment deadline, leaving students and parents with no time to verify the information.

What to do to avoid falling into scams and losing money needlessly
To help students and parents avoid fraudulent schemes, Nguyen Tat Thanh University recommends taking the following steps:
– Verify information through official channels: Nguyen Tat Thanh University guarantees that all information related to tuition fees and payments will only be notified through the official enrollment notice and via email addresses ending in @ntt.edu.vn. Please check carefully and do not conduct any transaction if the information is unclear.
– Be vigilant with bank transfer requests: Nguyen Tat Thanh University never requests students to transfer tuition fees into personal bank accounts. All payments must be made through the banking system or the official payment gateway of the university. If receiving transfer requests from unverified sources, the University advises students and parents not to rush into making them.
– Safeguard personal information: The University advises students and parents absolutely not to provide personal details, bank account information, or OTP codes to anyone over the phone or email, especially when you are not certain about the source of the request.
– Report immediately when suspicious: If you notice any suspicious signs related to tuition fee collection, please report immediately to the University at the official NTTU fanpage HERE; website HERE; hotline: 19002039 or contact the functional authorities for timely support and handling.

M.A. Bui Quang Trung, Head of the Communications Department at Nguyen Tat Thanh University, stated: “We deeply understand the anxiety of new students and parents during the enrollment season. To ensure that all tuition-related information is conveyed accurately and securely, the university has implemented strict security measures. We advise students and parents to only perform tuition transactions through official channels and not provide personal information to anyone of unverified origin.”

Nguyen Tat Thanh University always places the safety and benefits of students first. During the enrollment season, the vigilance and alertness of students and parents are key factors to avoid falling into sophisticated scam traps. The University commits to continuing monitoring and providing timely warnings about potential risks to ensure that students’ learning and living processes take place smoothly and safely.
