Voices from the Lecture Hall: New Graduate Representative Speaks on Responsibility and Choice
During the graduation ceremony of nearly 2,600 students, several representatives of the new graduates delivered speeches. Among them, the speech by Le Thi Hong Gam – a student from cohort 21 of the Faculty of Medical Laboratory Technology – was cited as a typical voice for the reflections of a generation of students who have just left the lecture halls.
Opening her speech, Hong Gam explained the meaning of the word *Commencement* in English – not as an end but as a beginning. Gam said: “Today is both a full stop to the years of diligent studying in the lecture halls, and the opening line for a new chapter in our lives – a chapter where there are no preset outlines, no absolute correct answers, and each person must be self-responsible for their own choices.”

According to Hong Gam, upon leaving the lecture hall, knowledge is no longer measured by grades but by how learners apply it in the complex situations of life. “The value of learning does not lie in what has been memorized, but in the capacity for independent thinking, the ability to self-reflect, and the courage to uphold standards in circumstances where no one is supervising anymore.”
Hong Gam also emphasized the role of teachers in shaping the mindset and character of students: “We have been handed not just knowledge, but the capacity for independent thought, the courage to choose correctly, and the consciousness to live worthily of what we have been taught.”
In closing, Hong Gam sent a message about the responsibility of young people entering life: “The graduation degree today is not a passport for privilege, but a permanent reminder of responsibility. Every professional decision we make reflects not only our competence but also our character and the value system we choose to commit to.”
A Promise Before the Profession: Nearly 2,600 New Graduates Take the Oath Together
In the solemn and deeply touching atmosphere of the ceremony, the vocational oath ritual – a meaningful tradition of Nguyen Tat Thanh University – left a profound mark. All new graduates placed their hands over their left hearts simultaneously, loudly delivering their professional promise, showcasing the pride, determination, and aspirations to contribute of the young intellectual generation before the gateway to life.
More than just a ritual, the oath is a powerful affirmation of the responsibility, ethics, and professional ideals that each student carries away upon leaving the lecture hall. That exact moment marks the milestone of maturity, where knowledge is bound together with courage, character, and the spirit of serving society.
